Anatomic and Clinical Pathology
Special Interests: Breast and Gastrointestinal Pathology

Dr. Beach joined Brown & Associates Medical Laboratories as an Associate in 2007, and became a Partner in August 2011. He received his Bachelors degree in Microbiology with highest honors in 1993 from the University of Texas, Austin. Dr. Beach studied medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, where he received his medical degree in 1999. His post graduate training in anatomic and clinical pathology was completed at Emory University School of Medicine, Atlanta, Georgia in 2003. After completion of his residency Dr. Beach sat for his Boards and received his certification in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology in July, 2004. He then completed a surgical pathology fellowship at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston in 2004, where he developed special interests in breast and gastroenterology pathology. Dr. Beach currently serves as the Medical Director of the Pathology Department of Park Plaza Hospital and is an active member of numerous professional organizations.


Diaz PhotoAndrea Diaz De Vivar, MD

Special Interests: Gynecologic/Obstetric Pathology and Cytopathology

Dr. Diaz De Vivar joined Brown & Associates Medical Laboratories as an Associate in 2016, after working at the Texas Children’s Pavilion for Women and CHI St. Luke’s Medical Center. She received her medical degree in 2001 from the Facultad de Ciencias Medicas (School of Medical Sciences) at the Universidad Nacional de Asuncion (National University of Asuncion) in Paraguay. After moving to the United States, she completed a combined Anatomic and Clinical Pathology residency at Baylor College of  Medicine in 2009, a Cytopathology Fellowship at The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in 2010, and a Surgical Pathology Fellowship at Houston Methodist in 2011. Her special interest is in Gynecologic/Obstetric Pathology, a field in which she has published and has been recognized (“Robert E. Scully Young Investigator Award” in 2014 by the International Society of Gynecological Pathologists for authoring the best printed article in the International Journal of Gynecological Pathology). Dr. Diaz De Vivar is board certified in anatomic pathology, clinical pathology and cytopathology. She has two children and is married to Dr. Juan J. Ibarra, who currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Radiology at Baylor College of Medicine.

Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, Cytopathology
Special Interests: Gynecologic Pathology and Cytopathology

Dr. Eskue is a native Texan and joined Brown & Associates in 2012. He received his Bachelors degree in Science (Biology), graduating Cum Laude, from Texas A&M University in 2002. He went on to receive his medical degree in 2006 from The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) School of Medicine, which is where he also completed his AP/CP Post-Graduate Residency Training in 2010. Dr. Eskue completed a Surgical Pathology Fellowship at The Methodist Hospital in 2010, and a Cytopathology Fellowship at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in June of 2012. He is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, and Cytopathology, and currently serves as the Medical Director of Laboratory Corporation of America Houston Regional Laboratory. Dr. Eskue’s wife, Shannon Hardy, is an Obstetrician and Gynecologist practicing at Complete Women’s Care Center with The Woman’s Hospital of Texas in Houston.

Special Interests: Surgical Pathology

Dr. Ford began working with Brown & Associates Medical Laboratories in 1983. Dr. Ford received his Bachelor of Arts degree and medical doctorate at the University of Oklahoma. He continued his postgraduate education as a resident at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Ford’s academic appointments include Assistant Professor of Pathology at Baylor College of Medicine for several years. He is an active member of numerous professional organizations. He served as Chief of the Pathology Department at Park Plaza Hospital for a number of years and is a Diplomate, American Board of Pathology in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology.

Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, Dermatopathology, Cytopathology

Dr. Galfione joined Brown & Associates Medical Laboratories as an Associate in late 2012. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Loyola University in New Orleans, Louisiana in 2001, graduating Magna Cum Laude. Dr. Galfione attended the University of Texas-Health Science Center (HSC) in Houston, where she received her medical degree in 2006. She served as Pathology Chief Resident (2008-2009) at Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas, and completed her Pathology Residency there in 2010, as well as her Cytopathology fellowship in 2012. She completed an additional fellowship in Dermatopathology at the University of Texas-HSC in 2012. Dr. Galfione is an American Board of Pathology Diplomate, Certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, Dermatopathology and Cytopathology.

Special Interests: Surgical Pathology

Dr. Gu joined Brown & Associates Medical Laboratories as an Associate in 2005. She received her medical degree at Medical College of Southeast University in Nanjing, China, where she also joined the residency program in the Department of Otolaryngology. Dr. Gu received a Master of Science at the Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, Louisiana. She completed her Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship at the Medical College of Georgia, in Augusta, Georgia; and completed her pathology and laboratory residencies at Texas Tech University Health Science Center and University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UT-HSC). She was the Chief Resident at UT-HSC in 2003-2004. She completed a Surgical Pathology Fellowship at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pathology certified in Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology.

Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, Cytopathology, Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine

Dr. Pam Holder grew up in West Texas and attended Texas A&M University, becoming a member of Texas A&M College of Medicine’s charter class and graduating with honors in 1981. After a transitional internship at Scott & White Memorial Hospital in Temple, Texas, she did her residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and a cytopathology fellowship at MD Anderson Hospital. Dr Holder has subspecialty boards in both cytopathology and blood banking/transfusion medicine.

Upon completion of training she entered private practice, joining Brown & Associates Medical Laboratories in 1990. Dr Holder’s responsibilities included serving on the group’s management committee for many years, Medical Directorship LabCorp Houston and the LabCorp South Texas Region. She is a member of the Texas Medical Association, Texas Society of Clinical Pathologists, Harris County Medical Society, Houston Society of Clinical Pathologists and a fellow of the College of American Pathologists. Dr. Holder is active in the TMLT and currently chairs the Claims Review Committee and serves on the Board of Governors.

Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, Cytopathology

Dr. Hollingsworth joined Brown & Associates in 1983. He received his undergraduate degree at Texas A&M University and his medical education at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston. He completed fellowships at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Institute and M.D. Anderson Hospital. He also served as the Chief of Pathology at Sharpstown General Hospital for many years, and as Medical Director of Brown & Associates main histology laboratory. After 28 years of service, Dr. Hollingsworth “semi-retired” in 2011, becoming a part-time pathologist for Brown & Associates. He is board certified in cytopathology, anatomic pathology, and clinical pathology.

Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, Cytopathology

Dr. Kling joined Brown & Associates Medical Laboratories in 2008 and currently serves as Medical Director of the Laboratory at Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital. She received her bachelor’s degree in zoology from the University of Oklahoma in 1994 and received her medical degree in from De La Salle University College of Medicine (Philippines) in 2000. She completed her internal medicine internship at Union Memorial Hospital (Baltimore, Maryland) in 2001 and her anatomical and clinical pathology residency at the University of Maryland in 2006 where she was also Chief  Resident (2004-2005). Dr. Kling completed fellowships in surgical pathology (2007) and cytopathology (2008) at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Kling is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology and cytopathology. In 2012 and 2013 she was nominated by her peers and selected as a “Rising Star” in Texas by SuperDoctors.com. Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital voted her “Female Physician of the Year” in 2014 and was awarded overall “Physician of the Year” in 2015.

A native of San Antonio, Dr. Kott began working with Brown & Associates Medical Laboratories in 1980 and became a partner July 1983. He attended San Antonio College and Saint Mary’s University, and graduated from the University of Texas Medical School, Houston, in 1975. His post-graduate studies included a combined anatomic and clinical pathology residency at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston (Hermann Hospital) and a fellowship in anatomic pathology at MD Anderson Cancer Center, American Cancer Society Fellow. He is board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology (1980) and cytopathology (1990). Dr. Kott served as the Medical Director at Columbia HCA North Houston Medical Center for 17 years and worked as a staff pathologist at Park Plaza Hospital. He served as Medical Director of the Laboratory Corporation of America Houston Regional Laboratory in March 2003 until September 2005. His wife, Marylee Kott, M.D., is Director of Surgical Pathology at Memorial-Hermann Hospital, University of Texas Health Science Center.


KoyR. Dudley Koy, MD, MBA

Anatomic and Clinical Pathology
Special Interests: Liver and Gastrointestinal Pathology

Dr. Koy, board certified in anatomical and clinical pathology, is the chief of pathology at Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital and has served as Katy’s Chief of Staff. In 1980 Dr. Koy joined Brown & Associates Medical Laboratories. He completed his undergraduate education at the University of New Orleans and later obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree at the Louisiana State University Medical Center. He continued his postgraduate education at Baylor Affiliated Hospitals and St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital where he specialized in Anatomical and Clinical Pathology. He completed his Masters Degree in Business Administration in 1998 at Houston Baptist University.

Anatomic Pathology

Dr. Lorine (Lori) LaGatta joined Brown & Associates Medical Laboratories as an Associate in 2009, and accepted the role of Medical Director of Laboratory Corporation of America in San Antonio, June 1st that same year. Prior to joining Brown she had been a Pathologist at CR Darnall Army Medical Center, where she was the Medical Director of Cytology, Robertson Blood Center, Hematology, Pediatrics Clinic, Women’s Health Clinic and 2 Troop Medical Clinics. She graduated with honors, majoring in Psychology (1988), and received a Master’s of Education in Educational Psychology (1991) from John Carroll University. Dr. LaGatta then received her medical degree at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in 1999, where she was awarded the Alice Paige Cleveland Prize for Outstanding Leadership. Her post-graduate studies at San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium included a Pediatric Internship (1999-2000) and a Pathology Residency (2000-2004). Dr. LaGatta is board certified in Anatomic Pathology.

Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, Internal Medicine
Special Interests: Surgical Pathology

Dr. Lynch is the Medical Director of Laboratories for Kelsey-Seybold Clinic, P.A. and directed the laboratory practice at Brown & Associates for 3 years. She previously served as a staff Pathologist at Laboratory Corporation of America. She received her undergraduate and medical education at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. Dr. Lynch has completed residencies in internal medicine, anatomical and clinical pathology. Following completion of a surgical pathology fellowship at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center she joined Brown & Associates in 1988. She is certified in anatomical pathology, clinical pathology and internal medicine. Dr. Lynch’s husband, Patrick Lynch, M.D., is a Gastroenterologist and a Professor of Gastroenterology at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.

Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, Hematopathology

Dr. Montalvo joined Brown & Associates Laboratories in 2015 after working at St. Luke’s Hospital in Houston since 2008, as part of Gulf Coast Pathology Associates. In 1998 she received her Bachelors degree in Biochemistry, graduating Cum Laude, from the University of Dallas. Dr. Montalvo received her medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School at Dallas in 2002. In 2006 she completed her post graduate training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston; where she went on to complete her Hematopathology Fellowship in 2007. She also completed a Surgical Pathology Fellowship at The Methodist Hospital, Houston, in 2008. Dr. Montalvo is an American Board of Pathology Diplomate, Certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, and Hematopathology.

Special Interests: Surgical Pathology

Dr. O’Connor joined Brown & Associates Medical Laboratories on July 1, 1994. He is certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic & Clinical Pathology (since 1994). Dr. O’Connor previously served as Medical Director of the Pathology Departments at River Oaks Hospital (formerly Twelve Oaks Medical Center), Bayou City Medical Center – South Campus (formerly Sharpstown General Hospital) and Methodist Willowbrook Hospital, and as a staff pathologist at Laboratory Corporation of America. He also served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at U.T. M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, where he instructed cytopathology fellows. He is a member of several professional organizations. Dr. O’Connor received his Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, Nebraska in 1985 and at the University of Nebraska, School of Medicine he earned his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1989. He began his pathology training in Nebraska, but moved to Baylor College of Medicine for 2-years, followed by a Surgical Pathology Fellowship at University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.

Dr. Oetama joined Brown & Associates Medical Laboratories as an Associate in 2006. She received her medical degree at Medical College University of Indonesia, Jakarta. She performed her post-graduate training at the University of Indonesia, Jakarta, and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC), in Lubbock, Texas. Dr. Oetama was the Chief Resident in the Pathology Residency Program at TTUHSC in 2002-2003. She completed her Hematopathology Fellowship Program at the University of Alabama (UAB) at Birmingham. Dr. Oetama is board certified in Clinical and Anatomic Pathology (2004) and Hematopathology (2006).

Dr. Olson joined Brown & Associates Medical Laboratories on July 1, 1982. He completed his undergraduate education at University of Illinois, Champaign Urbana, Illinois. His postgraduate education was at the University of Illinois School of Medicine, Chicago. He completed his internship at the University of Illinois Medical Center, an anatomic pathology residency at Lutheran General Hospital in Chicago, a surgical pathology residency and an American Cancer Society Clinical Fellowship at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston in 1980, and a clinical pathology residency at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital Houston, Texas in 1982. He is board-certified in both anatomical and clinical pathology and active in several professional organizations. He was a staff pathologist at Park Plaza Hospital and Laboratory Medical Director of HealthSouth Center for Specialized Surgery for many years, and is currently the Medical Director of Brown & Associates main histology laboratory.

Anatomic and Clinical Pathology

Dr. Ritter joined Brown & Associates Medical Laboratories as an Associate in San Antonio in 2009. Prior to receiving her medical degree in 1998 from the University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida she graduated with high honors from the University of Florida Honors Program in 1994 with double majors in Neurobiology and Psychology. She performed combined Anatomic and Clinical Pathology residencies at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, Lexington, Kentucky (1998-2001), and the University of South Florida, Tampa Florida (2001-2003), where she also served as Pathology Chief Resident (2003). She then served at CR Darnall Army Medical Center, Fort Hood, Texas, from 2003 to 2006, where Dr. Ritter was the Chief of Anatomic Pathology, Medical Director of the Women’s Health Clinic Laboratory, Medical Director of Microbiology, Medical Director of two Troop Medical Clinics, and the Pathology Representative for the Cancer Program Committee. For her service she was awarded the Army Achievement Medal as well as the Army Commendation Medal. Dr. Ritter has been board certified in both Anatomic and Clinical Pathology since 2003.

Anatomic and Clinical Pathology

Dr. Schiffer joined Brown & Associates Medical Laboratories in San Antonio as a contract Pathologist in 2009. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree at The University of Texas at Austin and his Medical degree at University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio. Dr. Schiffer completed his combined anatomic pathology and clinical pathology residency at Baptist Medical Center (Baptist Healthcare System) in San Antonio. He is board certified in Clinical and Anatomic Pathology (1987) and Cytopathology (1995). Dr. Schiffer is also a member of the Bexar County Medical Society and the Texas Medical Association.

Anatomic and Clinical Pathology

Dr. Tyler joined Brown & Associates Medical Laboratories in San Antonio as an Associate Pathologist in 2011. She received her Bachelors of Science degree in 1996 from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College, Cum Laude, Lynchburg, Virginia, and her Medical Degree in 2001 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine. She performed her Internship at Transitional, Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. Dr. Tyler performed a Residency in Pathology at San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium, San Antonio, Texas from 2002 to 2006. She also served as Chief Resident in Pathology at San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium in 2005, where she was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service. She then held the position of Chief of Clinical Pathology and Transfusion Services at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital for four years (2006-2010) where she was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal. Dr. Tyler is double-boarded in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (2006) with the American Board of Pathology.

Anatomic and Clinical Pathology

Dr. Uthman joined Brown & Associates Medical Laboratories in November, 1986, and became a general partner in January, 1991. Currently he serves as laboratory director of OakBend Medical Center in Richmond, where he sits on the Board of Directors and is a former two-time chief of staff. He was named OakBend Physician of the Year for 2015. He received the bachelor of science degree in biology from Rhodes College in 1974 and the MD degree from the University of Tennessee-Memphis in 1977. He completed a residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at the University of Tennessee-Memphis and was certified by the American Board of Pathology in 1981. Prior to joining Brown & Associates, Dr. Uthman served as assistant professor of pathology at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, where he received three Golden Apple teaching awards. He currently is an adjunct professor of pathology at the University Of Texas Health Science Center McGovern Medical School and participates in the lecture series in the sophomore pathology course, for which he has received an additional three teaching awards. Dr. Uthman served as the deputy state commissioner for inspections and accreditations of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) for nine years. He maintains a web site containing numerous original pathology-related documents (http://web2.airmail.net/uthman) and is the co-owner of PATHO-L, the longest-running online discussion group for pathologists. Dr. Uthman is the author of the book Understanding Anemia, published in 1998 and still in print. He served as president of the Houston Society of Clinical Pathologists in 2006-07 and president of the Texas Society of Pathologists in 2014-15. He is a long-time photography enthusiast whose images of medical and non-technical subjects have been published in a variety of books, magazines, and blogs. He is married to Margaret Uthman, M.D., Professor of Pathology and Associate Dean at the UT McGovern Medical School, Houston.
